Framework FAQ

Q. Why should I use the framework?

A. Here are some reasons:
  • It allows you spend more time developing games and less time dealing with technical issues.
  • It gives you access to fast rendering through modern 3D hardware, while still allowing your game to run on older computers without proper 3d support... an important segment of the audience for casual games.
  • The Framework’s reliability has already been tested in dozens of game titles distributed to tens of millions of customers.
  • Using heavily refined and tested code will help reduce QA time and ensure compatibility on the widest range of products.

Q. Is there any tech support for the framework?

A. Visit the user forums for support.

Q. What kind of games is the framework good for?

A. The Framework has been used on a number of different game types, from simple match-three games to hardcore side-scrolling shoot-em-ups. Although it supports 3d acceleration for graphical effects, it is principally a 2d game engine.

Q. Is it really free? Or does PopCap own anything I make using the Framework, or have rights to publish it?

A. It’s really free. Your work remains your own. There are a few requirements to using the Framework, but they do not restrict your rights to publish your game as you see fit.

Q. What are the licensing restrictions?

A. View the framework license

Q. I have an awesome new feature or bug fix for the framework? How do I submit it?

A. Feature suggestions and bug fixes can be posted in the user forums. PopCap developers monitor and read the forums regularly.

Q. Is there any license fee or hidden cost associated with using the PopCap framework?

A. No. It is completely free, but developers are required to abide by the license agreement.
